ATM withdrawals abroad

Updated Media Statement from Bank of Ireland

Bank of Ireland wishes to advise customers that it has now removed the temporary anti-fraud measure on its debit and ATM cards for overseas ATM withdrawals with effect from 6.00am today, Wednesday 20th August 2008.

On Friday, 16th August 2008, Bank of Ireland implemented reduced daily withdrawal limits on all its debit and ATM cards for ATM withdrawals outside of Ireland only. This anti-fraud measure was put in place following confirmation that day that Bank of Ireland was one of the banks affected by a retailer data compromise that impacted approximately 3,600 of our debit and credit cardholders. Bank of Ireland debit and ATM cards have now been restored to normal daily ATM limits for transactions overseas. The only exception is withdrawals at non Chip & Pin ATMs overseas which will have a daily withdrawal limit of €250.

Bank of Ireland apologises for the temporary inconvenience that may have affected some customers who are currently abroad, but this action was absolutely necessary in order to protect customers' funds by preventing fraudsters from withdrawing cash from these accounts outside Ireland.
