Make cash and coins a thing of the past and use contactless. So, when you’re grabbing things like a sandwich or that much needed caffeine boost look out for the contactless symbol and save time and just tap and go.
Just like chip and pin payments your contactless payments come directly out of your current account and will appear on 365online and your monthly statement.
Where can I use Contactless?
There are now over 6,000 contactless payment terminals across Ireland.
The number of participating shops is always growing so; keep an eye out for the contactless symbol for your transactions under €50.*
Contactless means a payment method which allows you to make purchases up to the maximum value of €50 using your debit card. The card is held close to the reader rather than inserted into a point-of-sale (POS) terminal. These limits may differ in different countries.
How do I use Contactless?
Instead of looking for change keep an eye out for the symbol which lets you know that you can pay with contactless to make purchases more quickly for anything up to a maximum value of €50.*
- Look out for the contactless symbol
- Let the sales assistant know that you’d like to pay with contactless
- Hold your card against the reader to pay
- When you hear the beep or see the green light, your transaction is complete. A receipt is available on request.
For security purposes from time to time we’ll ask you to enter your pin.
How secure is Contactless?
Even though you do not need to enter your pin contactless payments are just as secure as chip and pin transactions as contactless Visa debit cards use the same secure technology as any other Visa chip and pin cards. Contactless cards include the latest security features required by the payment card industry.
As an extra precaution from time to time you will be prompted to enter your PIN to complete the transaction.
If your card is lost or stolen you will be covered by the Bank of Ireland Visa Debit card terms and conditions of use as soon as it is reported.
