A new survey from Bank of Ireland reveals that almost two thirds of students live on less than €100 each week
And almost half support their student expenses with a part-time job
While Ed Sheeran tops the ideal roommate list
A new survey from Bank of Ireland reveals that no more uniforms (14%) and moving out of home (12%) were cited as two of the best things about being a student. When asked who their ideal roommate would be, Ed Sheeran topped the poll at 32% followed by Kylie Jenner at 18%. On the flip side of student life food featured strongly with noodles 27%, cereal 17% and beans 16% cited as some of the worst student dinner options.
The survey highlighted that the things students missed most are their family at 36%, followed closely by having their dinner made for them at 35%. The most common excuse students make for missing an exam is being sick at 34%, while sleeping it out ranked at 16%.
The survey also found that that 64% of students live on less than €100 each week, with 44% supporting their student expenses with a part-time job with an additional 34% receiving support from their parents. Responding to this need Bank of Ireland today announces the launch of its new FeelFree offering for students.
Speaking about the findings Laura Lynch, Head of Youth at Bank of Ireland says: “The survey highlights that while student life is an exciting, liberating and life changing experience for students it also brings challenges with many managing on tight budgets while adjusting to a new and very different environment. To meet students’ banking needs we offer a dedicated 3rd level account which ensures that students won’t be charged fees on day to day banking transactions for the duration of their studies. We are also delighted to be launching FeelFree which is all about rewarding students for using their account.
“The idea is simple – open a 3rd level account, stick with Bank of Ireland and be rewarded. Each quarter we’ll have a range of great rewards for students to choose from once they qualify by carrying out a simple every day banking task. The rewards will be tailored according to the time of year so expect ice skating passes in November, surf lessons and summer festival packs in May plus all the usual student staples of free pizza, travel and cinema passes. All told, the students could bag over €100* worth of rewards depending on their choices” concluded Laura Lynch.
