Security of the Bank of Ireland App

The app uses Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), either through your user ID and PIN or biometrics (RoI only). SCA works to ensure that it is genuinely you that’s carrying out certain banking activities, for example when you log in or authorise payments. It is designed to help keep your financial information safe and make online banking even more secure.

Logging into the app

Use your user ID along with 3 of the 6 digits of your PIN to log in. Customers in the Republic of Ireland can also log in using biometrics (face or fingerprint recognition). We will also perform a check in the background to verify your online account is being accessed using a security device you registered.
