What ID documents do I need to open a deposit account?
Applying in branch
To open a deposit account in one of our branches, you will need to bring:
- One form of photo ID (passport or IRL/UK only driving licence)
- One proof of address document (an Irish current account bank statement or a utility bill like an electricity or gas bill) which must be dated within the last 6 months.
Applying online
As a new customer applying online, you must upload images of:
- Your passport book
- A document that proves your address, for example your current account bank statement (from any Irish bank) or a utility bill like an electricity or gas bill, which must be dated within the last 6 months
- Your driving licence (Irish or UK only)
- A selfie of you holding your driving licence or passport book (with the photo page opened).
Note: The name on your photo ID must match the name on your proof of address document.
Depending on the type of deposit account you want to open, you may also need to have a Bank of Ireland current account. Check the specific terms and conditions for the deposit account to see if this applies to you.
Helpful tips:

- Make sure your ID is valid and in date
- Names and addresses must match on all your documents
- File sizes must not be bigger than 10MB
- If there are two sides to your passport or driving licence ID make sure to convert it to one file e.g., PDF.
