Activate a debit card

You can activate your debit card at ATMs worldwide, wherever you see the VISA Debit logo.

Activation Options

You can activate your physical card by making a purchase at a store checkout using chip and pin or using it with your PIN at any Bank of Ireland cash machine (and most cash machines worldwide).

When the new physical card arrives at your address, you can activate it for online purchases through the Cards section of the Bank of Ireland app or 365 online. You can also add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay on your mobile device through the app.

Please note

You should activate your card as soon as you receive it using the 4 digit PIN you received. Your 4 digit PIN will arrive separately from your debit card. Your 4 digit PIN can be viewed on the cards section on the Bank of Ireland mobile app or 365 online.

If you have received a card to replace an expired or damaged card you can use the same PIN as your previous card.
